This Privacy Policy outlines how I collect, use, and protect your personal information in compliance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

We collect your personal information—specifically your name, email address, and phone number—when you voluntarily subscribe to our mailing list or service. This information is collected solely for the purpose of communicating with you about Our Hunters Hill news, events, and related activities.

Compliance with Social Media Policy
Council has a social media policy (CPCG2) adopted on 23 February 2026. It adopts the following principles of social media engagement:
Openness - Council’s official social media platforms are places where anyone can share and discuss issues that are relevant to Hunters Hill Council and its community
Relevance - Official social media platforms are kept up to date with informative content about Hunters Hill Council and its community
Accuracy - The content uploaded onto Council’s social media platforms and any other social media platform will be a source of truth for Hunters Hill Council and its community and will prioritise the need to correct inaccuracies when they occur.
Respect - Council’s social media platforms are safe spaces. Council officials will upload and promote the behavioural standards contained in this policy and Council’s code of conduct when using Council’s social media platforms and any other social media platform.
Free Speech and Moderation
The Office of Local Government have published a circular on Free Speech in Local Government, accompanied by Guidelines. This restates (as set out in the circular):
the implied freedom of political communication under the Australian Constitution and how free speech is regulated in Australia
why the ability to engage freely with the community is central to a councillor’s role as an elected representative prescribed under the [Local Government] Act, and (inter alia),
how council media and social media policies should be applied to as not to unduly constrain councillors’ ability to engage with the community via the media and online.
Nevertheless, the administrator of this account reserves their right to block or ban participants that breach the expectations of informed debate, and to delete posts or comments (after making a record) which include (as listed in Council’s social media policy at 5.6), content that:
is defamatory, offensive, humiliating, threatening or intimidating to council officials or members of the public,
contains profane language or is sexual in nature
constitutes harrassment and/or bullying within the meaning of the Model Code of Conduct for Local Councils in NSW, or is unlawfully discriminatory
contains content about the Council, council officials or members of the public that is misleading or deceptive,
breaches the privacy of council officials or members of the public
contains allegations of suspected breaches of Council’s code of conduct or information about the consideration of a matter under the Procedures for the Administration of the Model Code of Conduct for Local Councils in NSW.
violates an order made by a court or breaches copyright,
advertises, endorses or solicits commercial products or business or otherwise constitutes spam, or
would otherwise be in breach of the rules of the account.
Note that council’s policy requires the making of a record of such a post or comment before deletion. The administrator will make reasonable efforts to inform a person to be blocked or banned of this decision and provide them with the chance to respond.
